Deconstruct & Re-Create Proposal- Part 1

Ebru Yildiz created this magnificent photograph of Marissa Nadler an American musician based in Boston. The title of this piece is Marissa Nadler for Sacred Bones taken in 2018. Ebru Yildiz is a New York photographer who specializes in taking images of modern-day musicians and artists. Ebru seems to not have a distinct style for her photography, which intrigues me as most photographers have a distinct style or pinpoint on the type of photographs they take. 

Through artificial lighting, you can see that there were possibly 3-4 different lights used in this photograph. From what you can see there is a light placed in front of her higher up, 45 degrees from the right-facing diagonally, one on the left side facing straight ahead and a light just below her chin as the lighting is very highlighted there and you cant see a shadow. 

The mood of the model seems more relaxed but quite sad looking as she is facing down instead of looking up. Her posture seems slightly slouched indicating that she is rather upset but not trying desperately to showcase it. The portrait style is quite traditional nothing too out of the ordinary. The wardrobe for this photograph is simplistic with just a regular top however if you look closer you notice her makeup is quite different. Her makeup style gives more of a vibe towards an Amy Whinehouse eyeliner mixed with a 60's Cher underline with colour. 

I think what drew me to this photograph is how different it was compared to the rest of Ebru's work with how colourful, detailed and eccentric her work is. Its very simplistic compared to the rest of her work and even though it seems simple but still has attention to detail and stands out. Looking at this image is aesthetically pleasing but gives off such a gloomy, shadowy dreary feel to it.
